About this Opportunity


Reporting to the Flight Nurse Manager, this exciting leadership opportunity, as the Deputy Flight Nurse Manager, will see you engaging, leading and supporting the RFDS SA/NT flight nurses and nursing team.

In this role, you will provide and oversee the provision of nursing and/or midwifery services in an aeromedical environment, be accountable for your own practice standards and contribute the RFDS SA/NT Strategic Plan.

This position is a permanent position, working 0.5FTE as the Deputy Flight Nurse Manager and up to 0.5FTE as a Flight Nurse within the Alice Springs team.

Specifically, you will:

- Provide pivotal leadership and coordination of patient care delivery to achieve continuity and quality of patient care and outcomes, and efficient patient flow.
- Oversee and facilitate the provision of nursing and/or midwifery care within the Flight Nursing Team, proactively providing support and advice in decision making and/or assessment to ensure safe and appropriate care is provided.
- Engage and collaborate with relevant stake holders on a needs basis to support complex tasks and/or patient(s) pre-transport requirements.
- Oversee local nursing resource management, including daily rostering, unexpected leave management, and attendance management, to ensure adequate and efficient allocation of flight nurses in line with skill mix requirement on all shifts.
- Act effectively to resolve local and/or immediate issues related to competing service delivery requirements, challenging behaviours, and/or patient care demands
- Ensure the reporting, investigation, and follow-up of incidents and/or safety concerns using SQR management systems.
- Contribute specific expertise to the development, implementation, and evaluation of RFDS SA/NT initiatives, clinical protocols, standards, policies, and procedures.
- Provide leadership and direction, acting as a role model, mentor, and resource person.

About You

You are:
- An experience Registered Nurse and/or Midwife who can work effectively within a multidisciplinary/ multiservice team
- An emerging Leader with the ability to engage, encourage and mentor team members
- A strong communicator with effective problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills
- A creative thinker, who is innovative and flexible when approaching issues within an aeromedical transport environment

To be considered for the role you require:
- Registered Nurse and/or Midwife qualification with current AHPRA registration
- A minimum five years post registration experience
- Demonstrated competence in Flight Nursing
- Post-registration qualifications in Critical Care (ED or ICU)
- Demonstrated ability to engage and support team members within a multidisciplinary environment.
