Telehealth

Almost 40,000 telehealth consultations are conducted each year in Western Australia. The vast distances in Australia mean that RFDS health staff are often required to provide health advice at a distance from patients.

Patients, their carer or family member, or remote area health professional who require medical advice from a distance, can call the RFDS for clinical advice, at no cost.

The RFDS health professional will conduct an assessment or provide treatment advice remotely and then monitor the situation to determine whether an aero medical evacuation is required or whether the patient can be followed up at one of its remote clinics.

Medical Chests are designed to assist in this situation.
