You put Andie in the air, where she's needed most!

Flight Nurse, Andie

Thanks to wonderful support like yours, Andie Duronjic is now a fully-fledged Critical Care Flight Nurse, who spends her days in the air caring for Victorians who need aeromedical transport.

Andie has an incredible knack for noticing the small things. From adjusting a pillow so her patient can view a breath-taking sunset above the clouds, to monitoring the many life-saving machines at her fingertips, Andie is a comforting and skilled presence to her patients.

You're part of an elite team.

But she wouldn’t be in the air without you! Thanks to your support, Andie has recently completed Flight Nurse Training. An elite program ensuring seriously ill patients have the very best care 10,000 feet in the air. She’s now part of an important team, which includes thirteen nurses, two pilots, and, of course, you!

Having two aeromedical crews ready to take to the skies means we can now run two back-to-back shifts without a gap in cover.

“It’s just logistically a lot better,” says Andie. “If we have to fly to Sydney or Adelaide, it means we don’t have to be done for the day. So we’re getting more people to where they need to go, which is really good.”

“I just wish you could see firsthand, the big, smiling faces of patients. It means a lot to have you keeping us in the air and getting everyone where they need to be. We certainly do appreciate every donation and all your support.”

When flying matters.

In August alone, you helped the Flying Doctor make an impressive 69 flight transfers throughout Victoria for patients too critical to travel long distances by road.

“If you’re taking someone from Warrnambool to Melbourne, that’s a three to four-hour road trip,” says Andie. “And you don’t have access to major hospitals if something goes wrong… you can’t fix that on the road.”

Andie beside the plane

Andie, like many of the team, has a personal connection to the Flying Doctor.

Her nephew was flown to The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne when he was born, by the very flight crew she now works with.

"You really do need the level of care and resources we’ve got on the plane to get patients there quickly."

And with every flight she makes Andie learns a little more about the real value of what she does for a living.

“The more I work for the Flying Doctor, the more I think of one word: equality. That’s what it means to me. We’re ensuring that no matter where you are, you have equal access to the help you need.”

Thank you so much for the important role you played in putting Andie and her colleagues through their training, so that Victoria’s rural and remote families know that no matter where they live, they can count on the Flying Doctor to go the distance.
