The Royal Flying Doctor Service is now the ongoing dental provider to the Omeo region. In partnership with Omeo District Health (ODH), Dental Health Services Victoria (DHSV) and the Australian Dental Association Victoria (ADAVB), the Flying Doctor provides all eligible residents in the Omeo catchment area with no cost dental treatment every second week.
Pleased to introduce RFDS’ first ongoing clinic to Omeo, Scott Chapman, Chief Executive RFDS Victoria, stressed the importance of a partnership approach to providing services: “RFDS’s successful partnership with DHSV and ADAVB means that those living in rural communities can access dental services nearby. The partnership with ODH is a good example of how RFDS works with local health services to provide a local solution”, said Mr Chapman.
Appointments for existing Omeo District Health dental patients and new patients are available every second week. Dental examinations and treatment will continue to be delivered in the dental clinic at Omeo District Health.
“The dental partnership between Omeo District Health and the Royal Flying Doctor Service is a great outcome for our local community. The new enhanced dental model of care will provide more dental services more regularly, delivered by a very experienced dental team, with the added benefit of it now being free for all community members living within our catchment area” stated Ward Steet, CEO of Omeo District Health.
“It is also fantastic that eligibility for dental care has been extended to include residents of Dinner Plain and Hotham Heights who in the past have missed out,” said Mr Steet.
RFDS Victoria’s experienced team of dentists, oral health therapists and dental assistants have been providing oral health treatment and education in rural areas across Victoria since 2016.
