In partnership with Edith Cowan University, the RFDS in WA has designed and launched the Certificate in Aeromedical Retrieval and Graduate Diploma in Aeromedical Retrieval. After a very successful year, enrollments for 2016 are now open.
These courses are of value to those who work in an aeromedical retrieval service or who seek greater understanding of aeromedical retrieval. This includes doctors and flight nurses with an interest in aeromedical retrieval. The courses provide education and training relevant to aeromedical retrieval services, retrieval medicine and aviation medicine. The courses include patient retrieval via both fixed wing and rotary wing (helicopter) aircraft and aeromedical retrieval services responsible for large geographical areas, offshore platforms (oil, gas and shipping) and inaccessible terrain (mountainous, heavily forested, coastal cliff).
Two courses are offered; a Certificate in Aeromedical Retrieval and a Graduate Diploma in Aeromedical Retrieval. The Certificate is comprised of three units with a focus on aeromedical retrieval services, retrieval medicine and aviation medicine. For those seeking further expertise, the Graduate Diploma in Aeromedical Retrieval provides an additional three units on aviation medicine, retrieval medicine, human factors and crisis resource management.
Course pre-requisites are a relevant degree from a recognised university. The courses have been designed to meet the particular needs of RFDS doctors and nurses.
