In Heathcote, RFDS Victoria, Heathcote Health and members of the community came together on 4 December to officially launch the transport service, and celebrate its success.
Since its inception, volunteer drivers have completed more than 1,000 transports, delivering community members to health appointments. The service is supported by a 12-seater bus that has been supplied by Heathcote and District Community Bank.
Working in partnership with Heathcote Health, this new transport service addresses a common challenge many people living in rural and regional Victoria experience.
“We are pleased to work with Heathcote Health to assist Heathcote residents to get to their appointments,” says RFDS Victoria Chief Executive Scott Chapman.
“With the logistical experience of the RFDS along with the support of local donors, volunteers, partners and community members, this service is having great results for community members.”
The Heathcote Community Transport launch comes just one month after another successful launch, which saw the Flying Doctor establishing a Speech Therapy program for Mallee kids.
Children aged 0-12 year, living in the Mallee region now have improved access to speech pathology thanks to a new partnership between Robinvale District Health Service, Mallee Track Health & Community Service and the Royal Flying Doctor Service Victoria.
