As part of the Western Queensland Flood Response Alliance, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section), Western & Northern Queensland Primary Health Networks, the Department of Communities and Queensland Health are working together to provide mental health support to those in flood affected areas of the state.

There will be free counselling for anyone affected through the NQ Connect helpline. The helpline is now open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 1300 059 625 and will connect callers directly to mental health clinicians.

Additionally, Senior Mental Health Clinicians from the RFDS have flown to Julia Creek, Richmond and Winton to determine the extent of support needed in the communities. They will work with supporting agencies to provide ongoing assistance. The RFDS are also providing psychological first aid training to front line organisations.

RFDS clinicians will also be available via a separate Mental Health Support Line for individuals from volunteer organisations and support agencies who are directly involved in helping local communities on the front line.
