Mental Health Care in the Bush

When Joan's husband died soon after her father, she had a hard time accessing mental health care in her community, and sadly this is the case for many in remote, rural and regional areas. 

Country communities across the country experience higher rates of anxiety, depression and suicide, with access to mental health services being limited.

In Victoria, he Flying Doctor Psychological Service is delivered in partnership with Gippsland Primary Health Network, and enables patients to access appointments with a mental health professional through their local bush nursing centers. 

Through this program, mental health clinicians also engage with local communities to develop relevant strategies
