RFDS Western Australia's Medical Director Dr Stephen Langford was recognised as "WA's Local Hero" at the WA of the Year awards at Government House on Sunday.
Dr Langford was named as WA's Local Hero for his work during a 32 year career with the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
He has saved countless lives and eased much suffering with innovations such as treatment preventing premature birth, ultrasound diagnostic capabilities, transfer equipment for heavy patients and blood clot-busting drugs for heart patients.
Now the Medical Director of the RFDS in WA, Dr Langford said much of WA's prosperity came from the regions and those who lived there should have the same medical care as those in the city.
Dr Langford will join the other 3 WA of the Year award recipients, along with the other finalists, at the national awards in Canberra on January.
