The Flying Doctor invites you to take part in a special Outback Tour commemorating 90 years of service between 6 and 19 July 2018
2018 marks 90 years of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS). To commemorate this special milestone RFDS is offering the chance to join a very special Outback Tour, visiting iconic places in the Flying Doctor’s history.
“The itinerary of the Outback Tour is carefully designed by the Flying Doctor team to give attendees a behind the scenes experience that no other tour offers” said Annette Allison OAM, RFDS Public Affairs Manager and Outback Tour leader.
Over 14 days and three states the 90th Anniversary Outback Tour will take attendees to some of the most beautiful and remote parts of the Australian Outback, and to some of the most remote bases of the RFDS. Journeying from Melbourne to Central Australia and Uluru, Darwin, Mt Isa and to the site of the first RFDS flight, Cloncurry QLD, this is sure to be an Outback Tour to remember.
“To see the expanse of this spectacular country and meet the dedicated people of the RFDS allows tour members to really get a feel of what it is like to live in an isolated part of the world. It really brings home how important the RFDS is to all Australians” says Ms Allison.
“As well as sights like Uluru at dawn, I always love going to the Flying Doctor bases to meet the men and women who work at the at the coalface of the Royal Flying Doctor Service – the pilots, the doctors and the flight nurses.”
Places on the 90th Anniversary Outback Tour are selling quickly, but there is still time to secure a place and help celebrate this milestone with other supporters.
“Joining the Outback Tour is a great opportunity to meet some new people, make some new friends and really see what the RFDS and this great Australian outback is all about.”
“Everyone gets on extremely well. For some people it will be their first trip, others have been to three or four. And we have one gentleman who is on his eleventh Outback Tour! It really does become like a family.” says Ms Allison.
