The Doctor call you DON'T want

Tis the Season to be jolly -- but as you are enjoying your pudding on Christmas Day the Flying Doctor medical and aviation staff across the country remain on call, day and night. We expect to be as busy as last year, when we transported over 120 people on the 25th of December.

This included:

- A retrieval from Alice Springs to the Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide of a premature baby with respiratory distress.

- A woman in premature labour at 25 weeks from the Central Australian remote community of Utopia to Alice Springs Hospital.

- A man with spinal injuries from a vehicle rollover near Mount Gambia transferred to Adelaide

- A man in his 70s with a heart attack from Roxby Downs Dam transported to Adelaide.

The Flying Doctor services on Christmas Day 2015 included inter-hospital transports, transports to and from Emergency Departments to other facilities or home, transporting patients home from hospital, an air ambulance road transfer, and a transfer from a police facility to an Emergency Department.

Ailments we cared for included fractures, spinal injuries, head injuries, fever, angina and related chest pain, renal failure and mental health issues.

"You can rest assured no matter where you are across Australia, on Christmas Day the RFDS aviation and medical staff are on duty and providing help where ever we are needed", says Martin Laverty, RFDS CEO.

"Please do celebrate safely this Christmas."
