Ambulance Victoria contracts impacts RFDS Patient Transport Locations

As a result of RFDS Victoria's stronger regional focus, Horsham, Morwell, Traralgon, Wonthaggi, and Sale will all benefit from increased RFDS services by being selected as the patient transport provider for Ambulance Victoria.

Every three years Ambulance Victoria opens its tenders to its patient transport contracts, with the RFDS being successful each round since our first application in 2011.

Travis Gilbert, General Manager for Mobile Patient Care at the RFDS said, “Along with the growth in regional areas, we will see a stronger presence out of the Essendon base and through the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.”

“While we are pleased to see the growth of our business in regional areas, we are unfortunately going to see a decrease in our staff numbers in metropolitan areas.  We have many staff who are keen to stay with RFDS, so we are working with them to transfer to other locations if possible”, Mr Gilbert said.

“Operation of our current Mobile Patient Care services will remain as they are until June 30, and we are in contact with the new areas we are servicing to ensure a smooth transition to our team”, Mr Gilbert said.

The RFDS undertakes private patient transport work for private clients and this work will not generally be affected by the changes to the AV contracts.
