In Heywood, Dr Erin Gordon provides service every six to eight weeks, operating from Heywood Rural Health.
RFDS Victoria General Manager Primary Health Care, Margaret Kuhne, said some people may not be aware that the service exists within their local community.
“The service is 100% bulk billed and is highly valued by local women in rural communities. Importantly, the service allows Victorian communities to have a gender choice when visiting their doctor. Women may prefer to consult with a female GP for a range of health issues and in many small rural communities across Victoria, there is only one local GP who is often male” Mrs Kuhne said.
“But there are also times when a man may feel more comfortable talking to a woman, especially with issues around mental health and social issues."
“It is important for people living in Heywood to know that this service exists and we want everyone to be aware that this service is being provided for locals to access,” Mrs Kuhne said.
Bookings for the Heywood RWGPs can be made through Heywood Rural Health on (03) 5527 0551.
