Senior Mental Health Clinician | FIFO
Job ID: RFDS423
Whenever and wherever people in Queensland need us the most, we’re there. That’s how it’s been for almost a century.
Join us and help us keep it that way.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (RFDS) is one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations in the world. Using the latest in aviation, medical and communications technology, RFDS delivers extensive primary healthcare and 24-hour emergency service, from nine strategic bases, to those who live, work and travel throughout Australia.
About The Role
The Drought Wellbeing Service provides community based mental health outreach services with a focus on early intervention, mental illness prevention, and mental health promotion.
- Fixed-term, full-time until 30 June 2022
- Location: Longreach
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Qld) is seeking an experienced Mental Health Clinician to become a vital contributor in increasing our services for communities and areas affected by drought in Queensland. Our clinicians are flexible in the delivery of non-traditional service models, and are willing to listen to community groups and leaders to ensure our programs are relevant to rural community needs. With FIFO arrangement offered, this role will see you join the team on a two weeks on - one week off working arrangement.
This is an ideal opportunity for those who are looking to advance their mental health career in an exciting, supportive environment, or a new direction for established practitioners to increase their autonomy and challenge the constraints of mainstream services.
Our clients often live hundreds of kilometers from services and may have different priorities to their metropolitan counterparts, meaning psychological strategies need to be delivered flexibly and creatively to be relevant to our client group.
Who we are looking for?
To be successful in this role you will need to possess the following:
- Tertiary Mental Health qualifications in the professional areas of Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health Nursing or Occupational Therapy;
- A range of evidence based psychological interventions for high prevalence disorders;
- Excellent counselling skills;
- Ability to engage with communities in remote and rural Australia
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or membership with Australian Association Social Workers (AASW)
This rare and exciting opportunity is presented to those with a passion for providing psychological support and strategies within hard to target populations and have a sense of adventure in how they will achieve this. You will be comfortable engaging with the rural community, and may even be from the bush, have family ties to the country, or simply a genuine interest and curiosity about life outside the city.
There are three ‘must-haves’ that we look for in every employee of RFDS (Queensland Section).
We want people who:
- Are passionate about providing the finest care to people in Queensland;
- Go above and beyond to drive a positive, cohesive team culture – helping each other to help others;
- Embrace the challenges our organisation faces - have the motivation to help us thrive in a competitive, commercial, KPI-driven environment.
Please note: This role will be required to undergo a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, will be subject to criminal history check, and will require to complete a course in Basic Life Support.
Why join Us?
The Furthest Corner, the Finest Care is our company motto and this is reflected in our delivery of mental health support to remote and rural Queensland. We strive to employ highly skilled clinicians to have the right conversation, with the right person at the right time.
In return for your skills, energy and commitment to our goals, we offer you the opportunity to make a real impact in Queensland communities and truly help others. You’ll work every day with people who are passionate about our purpose and proud of their contribution to our iconic organisation.
Your contribution will be rewarded with an attractive remuneration package plus salary packaging arrangements, relocation assistance and rural living incentives (Longreach only). In addition, you’ll have the unique opportunity to travel across outback Queensland and see how your actions positively impact communities.
We will support you in your endeavour to develop new skills in a close-knit team which encourages the sharing of ideas and knowledge, and prepared to invest in your professional development.
As a valuable member of a passionate team driving RFDS service and care, you will come to work knowing that you and your colleagues are providing vital support to people in Queensland communities. Critically, you are also helping ensure our organisation is efficient, effective and sustainable now and in the future.
