headspace Cairns (under the direction of the RFDS (Qld) Services Limited) is an innovative youth service, delivering primary and mental health, alcohol and drug services, educational and vocational services to young people aged 12-25 years.  

headspace Cairns continues to expand its programs to include a high fidelity Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) team for young people (to be delivered in partnership with Queensland Health). headspace Cairns is now seeking an experienced Senior Mental Health Clinician to continue to deliver this well established program. 

The Senior mental health clinician will be a part of the headspace team to deliver the DBT program in collaboration with Queensland Health and will continue on with the programs development, implementation and evaluation.   The role will involve the provision of individual therapy, group therapy and some out of hours phone coaching in conjunction with weekly consult meetings in line with the gold standard DBT model. 

Where eligible, options also exist to engage in private practice. This role would be part-time in order to compliment work within other areas. 

The preferred candidate will have experience in DBT or training in the model, experience working with people with borderline personality disorder and group work.  A minimum of two years mental health experience is essential. 

The Role: 

Fixed-term Part-time 2 days per week ( 0.4FTE) until 30 June 2020 with potential extension based on funding.
Undertaking complex holistic clinical assessments
Providing DBT counselling and associated support services to individuals, families and groups
Providing appropriate mentorship, including training and support, to team members, other health professionals and service providers.
Providing other staff with professional consultation and guidance on complex client issues and/or areas of identified high risk needs via internal case conferencing where directed by the Coordinator and Centre Manager

Who are we looking for?
To be successful in this role you will need to hold tertiary Mental Health qualifications in the professional areas of Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or Nursing with relevant registration or membership and have experience working with and providing interventions for young people and their families. In addition, you will have minimum five years’ experience in a relevant health related field including training and experience relevant to the above roles.
