About Us

The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (RFDS) is one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations in the world. Through innovative use of new technologies in medical, aviation and communications technology, our Queensland section delivers extensive primary health care and 24-hour aeromedical emergency service, from nine strategic bases to those who live, work and travel throughout the State.

About Role 

The RFDS Charleville Base is located in the heart of Queensland's 'mulga country' situated on the banks of the Warrego River.   Charleville is 740 kilometres west of Brisbane and is the largest town and administrative centre of the Shire of Murweh, which covers an area of 43,905 square kilometres.

The role of Senior Medical Officer provides management and leadership to our local RFDS medical team. The role will be directly involved in providing medical services to people living, travelling and working in regional, rural and remote Queensland.   This is position is full time (1FTE), with a 0.5FTE clinical load, and is offered as a live-in role only.

Who are we looking for?

A minimum of 12 months experience in post-Fellowship General Practice, and 12 months in Aeromedical Retrieval.
Registration or ability to be registered as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA
Fellowship in Rural General Practice (FARGP or FACRRM or equivalent)
Minimum of 12 months experience in rural/remote
Emergency Experience (minimum of 12 months in a mixed accredited facility or; 6 months in an accredited adult facility and 6 months in an accredited paediatric facility at Registrar or Consultant level)
Anaesthetics Experience (minimum of 6 months at Registrar or Consultant level in an accredited facility)
Intensive Care (minimum of 3 months at Registrar or Consultant level in an accredited facility)
ALS (Advanced Life Support) Level 2, and PALS or APLS, within the past 3 years
Demonstrated ability in managing teams and in professional leadership
Experience in indigenous health or cross cultural health care delivery

Successful candidates will be subject to a Police Checks and Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing.  Candidates are required to hold a current, unrestricted Australian Driver's Licence and obtain an ASIC Card.   

You will be required to successfully complete the RFDS credentialing process which includes providing certified copies of qualifications/registrations and evidence of immunity or vaccination against VPD.
