Broken Hill

The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia South Eastern Section provides comprehensive primary and emergency health services to rural and remote communities in far west NSW, SA and QLD.

We’d welcome a Full-time Psychologist with a passion for rural and remote mental health, to join our dynamic and innovative mental health activities. This role will work in conjunction with other RFDS medical and allied health staff in Broken Hill and be part of a pioneering mental health and wellbeing service across Western NSW.

This role will take you to the heart of remote communities allowing you to develop close networking opportunities with the community members and pastoralists where you can develop and deliver mental health support and wellbeing activities that are locally identified to protect and support individuals, families and communities.

You will work alongside child and family therapists also a play therapist, alcohol & other drug clinicians, community engagement workers, doctors, nurses, dentists, aboriginal health workers and pastoralists trained as ‘peer champions’ who offer low-level mental health support to their neighbours with professional support by the RFDS and Lifeline Broken Hill Country 2 Coast.

Other days you will undertake consultations by telephone, video, or face to face at our Broken Hill Base. There will be opportunities to work closely with the RFDS multi-disciplinary team including medical, aviation, engineers, finance, fundraising, marketing and administration colleagues.

Your skills will be utilised to directly improve the mental health outcomes for people living in rural and remote areas, and you will be able to embrace the lifestyle and opportunities living in Broken Hill and working with the RFDS will bring.  The sky is literally the limit in terms of mental health and wellbeing service delivery options.  All ideas from the community are heard and acted upon wherever able.  We have tried it all!

You can expect plenty of professional development opportunities, community activities, wellbeing initiatives, fly-around clinics, road trips and a great team atmosphere working with us here in Broken Hill.

If you have tertiary qualifications in mental health, clinical experience and an interest in rural and remote practice, we’d be excited to hear from you.
