About the Role

The Royal Flying Doctor Service South Eastern Section (RFDSSE) Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service Ground Registered Nurse (NEPTS Ground RN) is an experienced Registered Nurse employed by the RFDSSE to care for patients accessing the NEPTS for transfer from aircraft to facility. They will operate only on the road transport environment, employed in a casual capacity.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring patients remain clinically stable during their occasion of care.
  • Identify clinical deterioration and escalate clinical concerns in an appropriate and timely fashion.
  • Providing ongoing communication with the patient and their medical escort, as well as various external stakeholders
  • Escalating clinical concerns in an appropriate and timely fashion.

When not involved in patient care, the NEPTS RN will be involved in administrative and base duties as determined by the Senior Nurse, Emergency and Transport.

To be successful in this position, a candidate must have the following;

  • Relevant registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA); and Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia;
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) qualifications (or an ability to obtain same);
  • Minimum 3 years acute post graduate nursing experience, or demonstrated skill level;
  • 2 year ICU/ ED experience;

Desirable Criteria:

  • Any other relevant acute care or emergency skills;
  • DETECT and DETECT junior;
  • Previous triage experience; or
  • Post registration qualifications in a relevant acute area or First Line Emergency Care Course (FLECC) qualifications.
