About the role

An exciting opportunity presents within the RFDS (Queensland Section) Corporate Affairs, Marketing and Strategy (CAMS) division for a highly experienced Media and Public Relations Manager to join the team on a full-time, fixed-term contract until October 2020 (maternity leave cover).
The CAMS division has the responsibility to build and maintain the organisation’s brand and reputation through communication and stakeholder engagement services, which includes strategy development and execution, internal communication, marketing services, media and public relations, community relations, health stakeholder engagement, government relations, and issues and crisis management. Working alongside a high-performing and supportive team, this role will see you manage all of the organisation’s mainstream and social media activities.
Key responsibilities for this role will include but not limited to:
- Develop and implement a media and public relations plan that will build and maintain RFDS brand and reputation throughout Queensland and especially in the local communities in which we operate.
- Identify media and public relations opportunities for the organisation, including the Board and Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and other members of the executive and senior leadership teams.
- Prepare and dispatch media releases as required and monitor RFDS media coverage, and coverage of media stories that are relevant to the organisation.
- Develop and implement a social media plan for RFDS across a broad suite of social media platforms.
- Build productive and effective relationships with key media personnel throughout Queensland.
Who we are looking for?
You should have a deep understanding of the Australian media landscape with great network of contacts at a state and national level. You should have the ability to balance multiple priorities and deliver results within strict deadlines with hands-on and collaborative approach.
To be successful in this role, you must have the following qualifications and skills:
- Degree qualified in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or relevant discipline (Humanities or Social Sciences).
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in journalism, media and public relations or corporate communication roles.
- Exceptional writing skills with a demonstrated ability to write for different audiences and media.
- Demonstrated ability and experience to develop and implement media and public relations campaigns, external communication and stakeholder engagement plans, including media relations, issue management and community relations.
- Excellent conceptual and analytical skills, with a proven ability to understand a wide range of topics, identify issues and provide appropriate communication and engagement solutions.
- Leadership, managerial and supervisory experience of a team.
- Extensive experience with social media platforms, video and digital production.
- Able to build relationships and influence people at all levels, adapting communication and engagement style accordingly.
- Ability to work well under pressure, balance priorities and meet tight time frames.
