About the Role: 

The RFDS South Eastern Section (RFDSSE) is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated clinician to join as Director of Education and Training - Primary Care and Rural Generalism

Based in Dubbo, NSW, you will lead the development of an RFDSSE Clinical School Campus in conjunction with Charles Sturt University, support primary care education and training, while also delivering primary care services across western NSW. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the future of rural healthcare.   

This role is split into three key areas: 

  • Head of Campus (Academic Leadership) 
  • Clinical Education/Supervision 
  • Clinical Lead Western Primary Health Team 

Key Responsibilities: 

Academic Leadership 

  • Provide academic oversight of the RFDS Clinical School in partnership with Charles Sturt University’s (CSU) School of Rural Medicine 
  • Support delivery of CSU medical school requirements including tutorials, clinical teaching, lectures and assessments 
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment for medical students on rural placements 
  • Participate in Charles Sturt leadership forums and contribute to governance and academic planning 

Clinical Education 

  • In collaboration with the Clinical Director of Primary Care and Senior GP/RGs, develop and implement mandatory training requirements across the section 
  • Contribute to the development of a Rural Generalist (RG) training model within RFDSSE. 
  • Support GP registrars through ACRRM and RACGP pathways 
  • Develop and build capability among clinical supervisors and educators 
  • Coordinate training programs to meet university and professional accreditation requirements 

Clinical Leadership & Service Delivery 

  • Provide clinical leadership and deliver patient-centred health care across Western Primary Health services (Gilgandra, Warren, Condobolin and remote communities NSW) 
  • Undertake consultations in clinic, community, telehealth and outreach settings 
  • Supervise and support junior Doctors, Registrars and Students 
  • Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement and development of protocols and policies across the section 

About You: 

  • Fellowship with either RACGP or ACRRM. FACRRM and FRACGP-RG preferred 
  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Medical Practitioner 
  • Current ALS2 certification 
  • Significant experience in rural and remote medicine 
  • Demonstrated experience in medical education and supervision in a rural or remote setting 
  • Strong clinical, communication and leadership skills 
  • Commitment to rural and remote healthcare  

Desirable Experience: 

  • Previous experience as a clinical academic or educational leader 
  • Accredited supervisor with RACGP and/or ACRRM (or willingness to obtain) 
  • Experience in developing and delivering rural generalist training pathways 
  • Familiarity with curriculum design and assessment in undergraduate medical education
