About this Opportunity

The Aeromedical Physician will be based in Darwin and on call for long-haul interhospital transfers of critically ill adults who need higher level care in larger urban centres on our custom designed PC24 jet. While maintaining skills in your role at one of Darwin’s emergency, ICUs or anaesthesia departments, you will grow and maintain your aeromedical retrieval skills by working shifts for RFDS Central Operations from our state-of-the-art RFDS base and transfer facility at Darwin Airport alongside our highly qualified flight nurses.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Current Fellowship with one or more of the following:
o College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM)
o College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM)
o Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA)
o Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM)
o Credentialled (or eligible for credentialing) with Territory-wide scope of clinical practice in Aeromedical Retrieval and Evacuation.
If not a fellow, a senior registrar of at least PGY5 level with
o Minimum 6 months in Anaesthesia (or 12 months in procedural General Practice (Anaesthesia)
o Minimum 6 months in Critical Care (may be 3 months ICU/3 months ED or anaes)
o Minimum additional 6 months in Emergency Medicine
o Desired but not essential is experience in paediatrics (6 months, or 12 months in a mixed adult/paed ED)

Ideally, you will also have experience in aeromedicine, along with a well-developed understanding of rural and remote Australia and the challenges of providing first class healthcare within these environments.
