The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS WO) has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Quality Manager to join the team. This role will report to the Head of Safety, Risk and Compliance and will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our Engineering Quality Management System in align with the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations (CASR). This position will focus on implementing, maintaining and continuously improving engineering quality and safety management at RFDS WA.

About You


As an Engineering Quality Manager, you will have substantial operational knowledge and experience in aircraft operations and aviation maintenance. You will have a proven track record of successfully applying quality and safety management principles and practices in a complex organisation. You will be able to demonstrate your experience in the interpretation and application of Aviation and Safety related legislation and standards. You will have strong analytical skills with the ability to report on analytics, trends and solutions. To be successful in this role, you will need to have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and build stakeholder relationships.

This position will require you to be approved as an Engineering Quality Manager by CASA and hold formal qualifications in quality management, quality auditing and incident/hazard investigative techniques. It will be highly advantageous if you have aviation maintenance experience or have held B1/B2 LAME qualification.

About the Role


  • Implement, maintain and review the Quality Management System (QMS) in line with CASR part 145 requirements.
  • Continuously evaluating the effectiveness of the QMS and reporting this to the Accountable Manager directly if required or through the Aviation Safety and Quality Committee.
  • Liaise with Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) on engineering related quality and safety related issues as required.
  • Triage engineering hazards and incidents, conduct or assign investigations and report on outcomes including proposed mitigating actions and completion.
  • Develop and oversee the engineering audit program and conduct audits as required both internally and externally.
  • Compilation of engineering quality and safety data, results and trend monitoring and advise management and staff on related matters, trends, analysis, audit and investigation results.
  • Maintain and review engineering policies, procedures, manuals, records, and other such documentation as required.
  • Provide advice and expertise on CASA regulations and engineering matters in general.
  • Act as the CASA-approved Engineering Quality Manager with direct line of reporting to the Accountable Manager.
  • Contribute to the implementation, monitoring and review of processes, tools and systems to identify, assess, measure, manage, monitor and report risks as per the risk management framework.
  • Participate in implementing and maintaining safety promotions and communications to promote safety awareness and a positive safety culture promoting positive reporting culture amongst staff.
