The Role
An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Dental Assistant to join our team at the Royal Flying Doctor Service Victoria. This part time (0.8 FTE) position will be responsible for the provision of chairside dental assistance and administration as part of the Flying Doctor Dental Clinic. You will be working with a team of qualified and experienced dentists, oral health therapists and dental assistants while being supported by an expert program management team who are all passionate about providing dental care to those who need it most.
The role requires travelling to rural locations throughout Victoria to provide essential dental services in a mobile clinic to small communities that do not have easy access to public dental services. As such, the role entails alternating between working in a rural location for five days and working at our Richmond head office the following week for two days.
Key responsibilities include:
Provide dental assistance to dentists and/or oral health therapists in a mobile dental van
Prepare, maintain and monitor equipment including autoclave, x-ray and the medical fridge
Troubleshoot equipment problems, including repairs and maintenance of dental chairs, compressors and suction
Ensure the environment and equipment are sterile and clean at all times
Maintain stock levels including ordering, replenishing, unpacking, storing and rotating of stock
Comply with all infection prevention & control requirements including sterilisation, auditing, disposal of infectious waste and sharps
Administrative duties
To be successful in this role you will have:
Certificate III or IV in Dental Assisting
Level II First Aid Certificate
Previous experience in a public dental clinic (desirable)
Previous experience with the provision of mobile dental services (desirable)
Previous experience with use of Titanium (desirable)
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent computer skills and experience using all Microsoft Office applications
Willingness to travel to locations throughout Victoria as required
Current drivers licence
Current Working With Children's Check
