Are you an experienced GP or Rural Generalist looking to take the next step in your career? Do you have a passion for providing quality primary health care in rural and remote Australia?

We are offering you an exciting opportunity to join the Royal Flying Doctor Service South Eastern Section (RFDSSE) as the Clinical Director of Primary Care. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality primary care services across RFDSSE while still maintaining your clinical skills providing general practice work in a rural and remote setting. It is RFDSSE's preference that the successful applicant maintain a clinic load. Clinical fractional appointments can be negotiated on an individual basis.

The role can be flexibly based with a preference for a candidate based in Western or Far Western NSW.

This role is a new position within RFDSSE aimed at providing the organisation strong clinical and professional leadership across our primary care and rural generalist services. The position will work with our health leaders to deliver optimal outcomes for our patients and high-quality training for our clinical staff.

The Role

  • Patient Care: This is the perfect opportunity to focus on Primary Care and make a difference in rural and remote communities.
  • Leadership: Provide clinical leadership and oversight, guiding the implementation of evidence-based and innovative solutions to meet the healthcare needs of our communities.
  • Collaborate: With other clinical and operational leads across RFDSSE to ensure effective, safe and high-quality care is maintained across the organisation.
  • Training: Oversee the development of robust training and supervision programs for GP registrars, ensuring they receive comprehensive support and mentorship. This includes the development of a Rural Generalist program within RFDSSE.
  • Support: Medical leadership across all primary care services within RFDSSE, ensuring that all GPs and Rural Generalists are professionally accountable and equipped to provide exceptional patient-centred care.

To thrive in this role, you will have:

  • Clinical Expertise: Extensive experience in primary care, with a deep understanding of best practices, clinical protocols, and patient-centered care approaches.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven leadership capabilities with the ability to mentor, inspire, and manage diverse teams of healthcare professionals, including GPs, Rural Generalists, and GP registrars.
  • Strategic Thinking: Strong strategic thinking and planning skills, capable of contributing to the development and implementation of organisational strategies that enhance healthcare delivery.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, essential for effectively liaising with a range of stakeholders, including medical staff, patients, and community partners.
  • Commitment to Quality Improvement: A dedicated focus on continuous quality improvement, with experience in implementing initiatives that enhance patient safety and care outcomes.
  • Educational Leadership: Experience in developing and overseeing educational programs, particularly for GP registrars, ensuring high standards of training and supervision.
  • Cultural Competence: Sensitivity to and experience with diverse populations, including a strong understanding of First Nations health issues and a commitment to culturally safety.
  • Advocacy and Community Engagement: Skilled in advocacy and community engagement, able to promote RFDSSE’s mission and collaborate effectively with community groups and both internal and external stakeholders.

Essential experience

  • Expert knowledge and experience within rural and remote health settings.
  • Comprehensive experience in delivering primary care in Australia, particularly in rural and remote communities.
  • FRACGP or FACRRM essential
  • APHRA registration essential
