We are offering you an exciting opportunity to join the Royal Flying Doctor Service South Eastern Section (RFDSSE) as the Head of Risk and Assurance.
The Role
Based in Sydney, Dubbo or Broken Hill (your choice) this is an exciting opportunity to join our Senior Management team as our Head of Risk and Assurance.
You will lead a team of highly motivated team of safety professionals working across our organisation on safety management system activities, ensuring operations align with regulatory and company standards.
This role requires outstanding leadership and cross functional teamwork capability, and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety and compliance.
- Lead the ongoing development of the Safety Management System (SMS) across the organisation, fostering a strong safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with the RFDSSE Air Operators Certificate (AOC) requirements, WHS regulatory requirements, and ISO 9001 standards, while managing the Corporate Emergency Response Plan and safety training programs.
- Oversee safety and security reporting, including analysis of incidents and hazards ensuring corrective and preventative actions are effectively implemented.
- Maintain open communication across the RFDSSE Teams and regulatory bodies on safety performance and compliance matters.
- Monitor the Safety and Quality Management Systems’ objectives and ensure performance aligns with organisational goals, reporting performance updates to the Board of Directors, CEO and Executive Team.
- Manage safety performance of personnel, contractors, and third-party suppliers, ensuring adherence to safety policies, training requirements and operational procedures.

Who are we looking for?
We’re seeking an accomplished aviation professional with the qualifications, skills, and experience to lead safety initiatives and drive operational excellence.
You will bring a proactive mindset, great leadership capabilities, and a deep understanding of CASA regulations to this critical role.
- Proven experience: Aviation industry background with a strong focus on safety management - CASA acceptable credentials
- Regulatory knowledge: In-depth understanding of CASA regulations.
- Leadership & collaboration: Demonstrate strong leadership, interpersonal, and staff management skills to inspire and guide our teams.
- Analytical problem solver: Excels in analytical reasoning, conflict resolution, and decision-making with attention to detail and urgency.
- Effective communicator: Possesses great written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to manage confidential matters professionally.
