Broken Hill

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (South Eastern Section)(RFDS) currently has opportunities for General Practitioners to work with our team at the RFDS base Broken Hill in either a Primary Care clinic role or you may want to combine your GP skills with an emergency evacuation role.

We have opportunities for GP's who are looking to only do primary care clinics.

These are exciting but challenging positions that involve providing primary health care to communities in outback NSW.  The work involves travelling by air in our modern medically equipped aircraft and sometimes travelling by road to provide fact to face primary health care.

We also have a fully functional general practice at our Broken Hill base, supported by a practice manager, practice nurses and admin staff.  This position gives you the best of both worlds a traditional general practice and the opportunity to deliver a high standard of health care to the rural and remote communities within outback NSW.

Part of the role will involve remote consultations and we are significantly expanding our telehealth resources.

We have opportunities for GP's who are looking to combine primary clinics and emergency evacuations.

The RFDS Broken Hill base provides a 24/7 emergency service as part of the traditional iconic Mantle of Safety for the people of outback Australia.

While the general practice component is as above the emergency service provides 24/7 cover for inter hospital transfers and primary evacuations.

A large part of the inter hospital transfers is transferring critically ill patients from Broken Hill Base Hospital to Adelaide, however we also transfer patients from smaller community facilities to more major centers.  Patients often need significant resuscitation by our team.

Primary evacuations involve flying to remote properties and often treating patients in situ. There is 24/7 support by phone from our RFDS Retrieval Consultants to help with decision making.

Significant experience in critical care medicine, particularly advanced airway and vascular sills are desirable.  This position would suit a rural generalist who has had training in anesthetics and emergency medicine.

We provide an extensive orientation as well as ongoing training.  If you have the pre-requisite skills, but have not done retrievals, we can train you in this area.
