Description

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) is seeking an experienced Senior Mental Health Clinician to join our Child and Parenting Support Service team. The Child and Parenting Support Service offers specialised mental health support to children, parents, and carers.
Our service primarily offers 1:1 clinical counselling for young people and or parents of young people who may be struggling with aspects of mental wellbeing.

Additionally, our program addresses critical issues such as stress, self-harm, grief, and loss. This is a highly autonomous role with the successful candidate being the sole RFDS clinician in these allocated communities.

The Senior Mental Health Clinician will play a crucial role in helping clients recover while also collaborating with other providers to ensure holistic care is given. The clinician will also focus on building strong relationships with other providers to improve the quality of care provided.

The role

  • Full-time, maximum term contract until June 30th, 2025.
  • Based in Normanton delivering services in Normanton, Croydon and Karumba.
  • FIFO option available from Cairns with flights and accommodation provided OR
  • Relocate with relocation allowance + Rent Assistance + Remote Area Packages
  • Working roster of 12 days on and 9 days off (FIFO) OR
  • Monday to Thursday or Monday to Friday (Live in)
  Key responsibilities include:
  • Delivering services to an individual and/or in a family setting
  • Undertaking intake, triage, and assessment
  • Providing a range of evidence-based clinical interventions
  • Undertaking complex holistic clinical assessments
  • Conducting regular case reviews
  • Collaborating effectively with interagency networks and educators to create a supportive network
  • Developing and delivering culturally appropriate holistic services
  • Coordinating administration of current caseload
  
Who are we looking for?

In addition to being highly adaptable, you are a skilled and respectful communicator, positive and passionate about supporting mental health and well-being services. You will have:
  • Registration with AHPRA or membership of the AASW
  • A qualification in Psychology, Social Work (Accredited with AASW), Occupational Therapy or Mental Health Nursing (Suitable for Mental Health credentialing)
  • Post-graduate experience of at least 5 years in a relevant clinical field
  • Demonstrated experience in brief interventions, therapeutic counselling, case management, and mental health education with children and young people
  • An understanding of issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing
  • The ability to work autonomously
  • Confidence to apply expertise and use creativity and innovation in therapeutic services

The RFDS (Queensland Section) is a well-established and trusted aeromedical provider that offers quality aeromedical retrieval services, as well as primary and preventative healthcare to regional, rural and remote Queenslanders. We take pride in delivering the finest care to the furthest corner.
  
Our mental health service is the largest among all the RFDS sections across Australia, delivering over 12,100 mental health consultations annually. Successful candidates will be subject to a police check and pre-employment drug and alcohol testing. Candidates are required to hold a current, unrestricted Australian driver's licence. Before the appointment, you will be required to provide certified copies of qualifications/registrations and evidence of immunity or vaccination against vaccine-preventable diseases. You will also be required to complete the RFDS credentialing process.

Please note- non-AHPRA registered professionals will need to obtain a Blue Card during the recruitment process.
