About headspace:
headspace Cairns (under the direction of the RFDS (Queensland Section) Services Limited) is an innovative youth service, delivering primary and mental health, alcohol and drug services, social welfare and vocational services to young people aged 12-25 years.  We’re looking for a passionate, dedicated and proactive clinician to join our team in this autonomous position.
The Role:

The Senior Mental Health Clinician will effectively engage, screen, assess, refer, provide brief interventions and coordinate care for young people aged 12-25 years who are referred to the Outreach Service. They will assist in determining appropriate service provision pathways within headspace, and/or facilitate referral to external service providers, ensuring that the young person receives seamless, coordinated, high quality and youth friendly services.
The clinician will be able to provide evidence-based information and support in response to enquiries received by young people, their families, other professionals and service providers, and members of the community. This Senior Clinician will be responsive to urgent mental health needs of young people by robust clinical assessment and providing focused and relevant interventions.

This role is a full-time position on a maximum term contract until June 2022 in our Cairns location. The outreach program delivers services in the areas of Innisfail, Mareeba Shire and Tablelands regions.

Who we are looking for?
You will be qualified in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Nursing (Mental Health), maintain registration with AHPRA or the AASW and have at least 5 years in a relevant clinical field including training and experience relevant to the role. In addition, we are looking for;

  • Demonstrated competence in mental health assessment (including but not limited to mental status examinations (MSEs), crisis intervention, treatment planning and interventions, therapeutic interventions, and social recovery paradigms), and subsequent coordination of access to appropriate service provision
  • Demonstrated ability in risk assessment, including risk to self or others.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the provision of mental health services to young people, and their families in an outreach setting
  • Good communication skills, and the ability to engage with young people and advocate on their behalf
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, clients, carers and external stakeholders
