How to enter

The Spirit of the West Awards are open to individuals who want to make a difference and show their support for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. While fundraising auxiliaries and community organisations are encouraged to nominate one of their members for the awards, it remains an individual award. All judging is based on the contributions of the individual to the fundraising effort.

Entrants must be over the age of 18 years and must raise a minimum of $7500 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service over a 12 month period.

Entries will initially be assessed based on written submissions, with a judging panel to interview finalists prior to the awards presentation. The judging panel will select winners for four categories:

  • Chevron RFDS Spirit of the West Award: the major award will be presented to the person who has shown excellence, initiative, humanity and spirit throughout their fundraising efforts. This entrant would have supported the RFDS, enhanced their own life and made a difference to their community as part of their fundraising. Their fundraising willl best demonstrate the values of the awards program. This award is not conditional on raising the most funds.
  • Sponsored Fundraiser of the Year Award: for the person with the most funds raised within the fundraising period with more than $10,000 corporate funding.
  • Fundraiser of the Year Award: for the person with the most funds raised within the fundraising period with less than $10,000 corporate funding.
  • Outstanding Achievement Award: for the person who demonstrated outstanding initiative, unusual effort and achievement beyond expectations. This award is not conditional on raising the most funds.
