Planned Giving and Bequests
What is a bequest?
A bequest is a gift in a Will. The Royal Flying Doctor Service is aware of the need to look after your family, however after providing for loved ones you may still wish to make a gift to an organisation such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
You may have been one of our patients, or know someone who was. You may want to do something to help people who live or work beyond the immediate reach of specialist hospitals and health services or you may want to help us to expand the range of services we can currently offer. The gift you plan today will help us to provide ever-improving aero-medical and clinic services to our future generations.
If you would like further information about leaving a bequest to the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (Western Operations) or if you require suggested wording for this in your Will, please contact the Director of Public Affairs on (08) 9417 6400 or email

Why make a Will?
A Will is a legal document containing details of your wishes regarding distribution of your estate after your death. By making a valid Will you can ensure that your wishes are made clear and will be upheld under law.
Making a Will can be a surprisingly satisfying experience, allowing you to provide for your loved ones and/or leave special gifts that will be treasured. You can leave bequests to a person or to an organisation in your Will. Whether a gift of appreciation or love, it can provide an opportunity to give that you may not have had during your lifetime.
How to make a Will
Although not essential, it is suggested that you seek professional advice when making your Will. The process need not be complicated or expensive and can be made simpler by first considering the following:
- What you own (your assets)
- What you owe (your debts)
- Who you wish to name as a beneficiary (the people and/or organisations and their locations)
- How you wish to divide your estate
- Who you wish to name your Executor(s)
- An Executor is the person (or people) who will be legally responsible for carrying out the wishes detailed in your Will.
You will need to pay attention to correctly naming any organisations or branches of organisations to which you wish to leave a gift so there is no confusion after your death.
In the case of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, there are several different Sections servicing different States and a National Office as well. Best to call our Fundraising Department on (08) 9417 6400 to make sure details for WA are up to date and correct.
Please be aware that each State in Australia has different laws and regulations regarding Wills and that’s why professional advice is recommended.
