Remote Services
The vast distances in Australia mean that RFDS health staff are often required to provide health advice at a distance from patients. RFDS health staff can be located at an RFDS base or health facility and a patient, their carer or family member or remote area health professional require medical advice from a distance.
In this situation the RFDS health professional can conduct an assessment or provide treatment advice remotely and then monitor the situation to determine whether an aerial evacuation is required or whether the patient can be followed up at one of its remote clinics.
RFDS services designed to assist in this situation are ‘Remote Consultations’ and ‘Medical Chests’.
