Michael Catchpole worked as a rural general practitioner (Mount Morgan) followed by appointment as a Senior Medical Officer in Emergency Medicine (Redcliffe Hospital).

Michael drifted into medical administration as Deputy Medical Superintendent (Redcliffe Hospital), a period as acting Medical Superintendent (Mater Adult Hospital Brisbane) and then as Principal Medical Officer in Queensland Health, working on medical workforce training, recruitment and retention policy.

After a period of re-skilling in O&G and Anaesthetics/ICU at Redcliffe, he commenced with RFDS in Rockhampton in 2005.

His major interest is in rural and remote generalist practice, particularly the training and support required for this essential part of the medical workforce.
