Ian Hosegood

Ian Hosegood is the General Manager of Health Services for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS-QLD) and also works in private Occupational Medicine.

Ian has a fellowship with the RACGP and also holds postgraduate qualifications in aviation medicine and occupational medicine.  Ian had 12 years with the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) where he held a variety of roles including Chief Instructor at the RAAF Institute of Aviation Medicine (IAM) in Edinburgh South Australia.  During his Australian Defence Force career Ian also had operational deployments in Iraq, the Solomon Islands, East Timor and Malaysia as well as an exchange posting with the Royal Air Force in the UK where he did his Diploma in Aviation Medicine.

After leaving the Defence Force in 2000, Ian entered airline aviation medicine with Emirates Airlines in Dubai where he undertook various clinical teaching and research roles and eventually took the role of Vice President of Clinical Services. During this period, he held positions on both the IATA Medical Advisory Group (MAG) and also the ICAO Medical Provisions Study group (MPSG). In 2006, Ian left the United Arab Emirates to assume the role of Principal Medical Officer (PMO) and Director of Aviation Medicine at the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) in Canberra, a role he held until 2009 when he took up his current role with the RFDS.  During his time with CASA, Ian was integrally involved with the development of CASA’s AOD program and associated legislation.
