Royal Wedding Charitable Gift Fund

Prince William and Kate Middleton nominated the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (RFDS) as one of only three non-United Kingdom charities to benefit from a gift fund established for the upcoming Royal wedding.

The fund was established to enable people wanting to extend their best wishes to the couple to do so through a charitable donation in lieu of a wedding gift.

The announcement was made, just ahead of Prince William’s visit to the RFDS Cairns Base as part of his tour of flood and cyclone-affected areas in March 2011.

We were honoured to be chosen as a beneficiary of the gift fund, with National Chairman Major General Michael Jeffery stating, “Traditionally, the Royal Family has shown great interest in our work, including visits by the Queen to our Broken Hill Base in 1954 and to the Cairns Base in 2002, whilst Prince Charles visited the Alice Springs base in 2005.”

“Prince William and Miss Middleton continue that Royal tradition through their generous gesture of inviting donations in lieu of wedding gifts. On behalf of the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia I extend our best wishes for a wonderful wedding and a long and happy life together.”

Donations can be made via the charitable gift fund at www.royalweddingcharityfund.org.
