Diabetes Australia Remote/Rural Health Resources, Services and Programs

Given the high prevalence of diabetes among Indigenous Australians, Diabetes Australia has dedicated web pages providing information for Indigenous Australians. The information provided is from the ‘Keep Culture Life & Family Strong; Know Early About Diabetes’ flipcharts for Indigenous Australians with the following headings:

  • How do you feel?
  • What is it?
  • What do I do?
  • Why take medicine for?
  • Why me?
  • ATSI Flipcharts

'Keep Culture Family Strong: Know Early About Diabetes'

The Flipcharts were developed by Indigenous Australians to help health professionals in Indigenous communities across Australia to raise awareness of diabetes and diabetes management. The resource was originally developed by Healthy Living NT.

"That Diabetes" Tackling It Together: is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander documentary that was produced by Blackfella Films Pty Ltd. The aim of the project was to visually present the harshness, beauty and remoteness of the Australian landscape and to highlight in a culturally sensitive way the difficulties faced by many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in relation to diabetes.
