Fly Around Clinic - 2008
2008
A Beechcraft Baron piloted by Capt Dave Funnell made the rounds of Greater Western Area Health Service (GWAHS) towns and bush clinics in June 2008. On board was the then RFDS Chief Medical Officer Dr John Price, otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat specialist) Dr Robert Webb and audiologist Jennifer Borrett.
Unfortunately, the weather played havoc with the Fly Around Clinic schedule, but the team still managed to visit Menindee, Wanaaring, Whitecliffs, Ivanhoe and Yunta.
While Jennifer and Robert concentrated on their specialist areas, John Price attended to the needs of other patients. As well as updating RFDS electronic medical records, he also spent time training staff in the use of computerised electronic medical records. Always breaking new ground, the RFDS is keen to bring this new technology to remote regions to ensure patient records are more accessible, thorough and up to date.
The Fly Around Clinic began with a focus on dermatology and over the years it has branched out to cover other health areas, bringing more specialist help to the people of the bush. In spite of the forced cancellations, 122 patients were seen during the 2008 Fly Around Clinic.
