Health Promotion
Health promotion and illness prevention activities are integrated into all RFDS primary health care services.
Health promotion involves raising awareness of health issues amongst people who might be healthy today, in order to help prevent illness in the future. RFDS carries out health promotion activities in all its Operating Sections, sometimes in conjunction with other health services.
A key development has been the holding of specific health promotion events at rural and remote locations. One example is the health promotion field days held regularly throughout Queensland from the Cairns and Charleville Bases, which build skills to help people better manage health issues encountered in the remote context.
Other notable examples of health promotion initiatives include the RFDS ‘On the Road’ program operated by RFDS Western Operations and the Healthy Living Program operated by RFDS Central Operations. RFDS South Eastern section operates ‘Fly Around Clinics’ which often have a more health promotion/preventative focus.
