Education/Training - Western Operations

In Western Australia, we provide a comprehensive two to three week orientation program for all new clinical staff covering a broad range of topics including aviation medicine, retrieval medicine and aircraft safety.  This includes exercises in our aircraft clinical simulator.

In addition to our in-house staff training, we also provide some training.  This includes orientation of international medical graduates, advanced life support and formal accredited courses such as the Medical Care for Shipmasters course.  Further details can be found in the links below.

Information about the course

A one week internationally recognised and Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) approved course is offered in conjunction with Challenger TAFE and Fremantle Emergency Department.

The purpose of this course is to provide competency based training in emergency first aid and medical response in the shipboard environment.

On successful completion, learners will be able to take charge of a medical emergency on board a ship, seek assistance from shore-based medical advisers and carry out medical procedures as directed from shore-based medical advisers.

How long is the course?

Six days plus an evening practical session at the Fremantle Emergency Department

Who should enrol in this course?

Any person requiring an AMSA approved Medical Care on Board Ship Certificate or persons interested in acquiring the knowledge and skills to manage a medical emergency in a remote location.

How much does it cost?

Full Course $1340 (profile student); $1550 (non-profile student) including tuition and text book.

Revalidation Course $400.
