RFDS - Queensland Section
Students in Flight
The RFDS (Queensland Section) offers placement opportunities for university students studying for a Bachelor of Medicine or Nursing qualification. It welcomes the involvement of students and encourages the emphasis on rural, remote and indigenous health and multidisciplinary practice. The placement provides the opportunity for exposure to remote primary health care in several bases.
The availability of medical and nursing student placement varies from base to base. As student placements (where offered) are limited, a waiting list may exist and preference may be given to senior students.
For Medical Students:
- Senior Medical Students (4th and 5th year) from all Australian Universities are encouraged to apply, however first consideration will be given to those who are currently studying with a Queensland University.
- This placement will offer a clinic based rural experience with the possibility of involvement in aeromedical retrievals.
- Up to two weeks comprehensive student placement at our Cairns or Charleville base. Mount Isa base placement has a high intake of John Flynn Scholars and therefore placements for other students is limited to one week, with the possibility of consideration of an additional week.
- Student placements will occur between the months of April and November. This is due to the requirement for our aircraft to carry extra fuel during the wet season.
Applications for the 2011 student placement intake close on the 29th of October, 2010.
