Our Busy Aircraft
In the financial year ending June 2011, the 61 aircraft of the RFDS and a number of chartered aircraft undertook nearly 76,000 flights taking over 80,000 hours and covering a distance of nearly 27 million kilometres.

Here are some of our national aviation and related patient statistics. The RFDS:
- Has 21 aircraft operating bases
- Flies 61 aircraft and charters a number more
- Employs 186 pilots, 65 engineering staff, 14 radio staff and 16 operational co-ordinators to support our doctors , nurses and clinicians
- Services more than 80% of Australia (7,150,000 km2), an area nearly the size of the United States of America
- Attended 278,456 patients (average of 763 per day)
- Carried out 40,322 aerial evacuations and transfers (average of 110 per day)
- Conducted 13,936 health care clinics (average of 38 per day)
- Flew 26,869,690 kms (average 73,616 per day)
- Flew for 80,959 hours (average 219 per day)
- Made 75,718 landings (average 207 per day)
