Dubbo Base

Take off! Dubbo Base

Dubbo Base was established to provide increased medical coverage for patients in western NSW. Since its first flight in August 1999, over 5,000 flights have been flown from this Base to more than 50 locations across central and northwestern NSW.

Our mission

  • to provide 24 hour emergency retrievals
  • to facilitate inter-hospital air transfers
  • to administer the Rural Aerial Health Service (RAHS) bringing the expertise of medical specialists to the rural communities in our region
  • to provide training and placements for medical, health science and nursing students in our partnership with the School of Rural Health of the University of Sydney

Our supporters

In addition to donations from individuals, governments and organisations across the country, we are fortunate enough to enjoy the generous support of the Dubbo community. The Dubbo Support Group (DSG) met a large proportion of our start up costs in 1999 and has continued to fundraise on our behalf.

Fast facts

  • our territory includes Dubbo, Walgett, Lightning Ridge, Cobar and Bourke, but we also reach as far as New England and the NSW North coast
  • we operate one King Air B200 plane which carries out emergency aerial evacuations as well as non urgent inter-hospital transfers
  • our team consists of one doctor, four pilots, four flight nurses, an engineer and a base manager
