Bankstown Base

Take off!Bankstown Base

The RFDS base at Bankstown began operations in July 1994.

Bankstown Base is the home of the Rural Aerial Health Service (RAHS) which the RFDS operates on behalf of NSW Health. While administration and coordination of RAHS flights takes place at the Dubbo Base, the majority of flights are made from Bankstown.

RFDS and chartered aircraft are used to transport consultative and specialist health professionals to rural and remote areas across NSW. RAHS also supplies transport and other services for locum tenens doctors relieving isolated GPs and other health professionals.

Our mission

  • to bring specialist medical personnel to remote and rural communities in order to combat the growing shortage of health professionals in these areas
  • to provide hands-on training for medical, nursing and health science students on RAHS flights.

Fast facts

  • we operate one King Air B200 aircraft

  • over 100 medical specialists are part of the RAHS team
  • we fly health professionals from Bankstown, Newcastle, Dubbo, Tamworth, Albury and Ballina to ensure specialist coverage for the entire state of NSW.
